Strandeiland in Amsterdam is one of the city’s newest expansions. The island is part of the IJburg project and will provide space for around 8,000 new homes. It is a remarkable area, located in the middle of the IJmeer, where sustainability and innovative construction methods take center stage.
For Homes Factory B.V., we completed the full steel structures for 29 modular homes. These homes are among the first residential blocks on Strandeiland and demonstrate how modular construction and steel frameworks ensure speed, precision, and quality.
Production of the steel frames began in our workshop in Maassluis. As soon as the final drawings were approved, we immediately started with the work preparation. We developed a custom jig to produce each frame with exact precision. This allowed us to work efficiently while guaranteeing a high level of dimensional accuracy.
Our work included:
➔ Prefabrication of all steel components in our workshop
➔ Development of a jig for precise fitting and measurements
➔ Assembly, welding, and finishing of the complete frames
➔ Transport and coordination within the construction chain
In total, we processed approximately 70,000 kilograms of steel. After production in Maassluis, the steel structures were transported to Homes Factory’s facility in Breda, where the modular homes were further assembled with floors, façades, formwork, reinforcement, and roofs. The finished homes were then transported one by one to Amsterdam, where they were placed and connected into complete residential blocks using mobile cranes.
With this project, we are contributing to the development of a new part of Amsterdam – a place where steel forms the foundation for modern, sustainable housing and where collaboration makes all the difference.
