The Maasdeltatunnel is part of the Blankenburg Connection, a large scale infrastructure project that improves the accessibility of the region. Along the route of this new connection, two service buildings have been constructed that play an important role in the daily operation and management of the tunnel.
For this project, Dijkstaal B.V. realized the complete steel structures for these two service buildings: Building North and Building South. Two buildings at different locations, each with its own scale and position in the landscape, yet together indispensable within the overall tunnel system.
Building North is the larger of the two and is located directly above the motorway. For this building, we produced and assembled approximately 55,000 kg of steel. The design consists of an insulated inner core surrounded by an open façade of wooden slats. This façade ensures a subtle integration into the surroundings while also providing shelter and nesting space for birds. The steel structure is fully hot dip galvanized in accordance with NEN EN ISO 1461 and finished with a two layer powder coating, ensuring durable protection against weather conditions.
Building South is located further towards the Waterway and includes approximately 1,600 kg of steel. Smaller in scale, but with a comparable technical function within the project. Here as well, reliability and service life were central to the selected structural solutions.
The scope of work for this project included:
➔ Engineering, production and delivery of the complete steel structures
➔ On site assembly of the steel structures
➔ Supply and installation of stairs and guardrails
➔ Hot dip galvanizing in accordance with NEN EN ISO 1461
➔ Two layer powder coating of all steel components
With this project, Dijkstaal contributed to future proof infrastructure, where engineering, sustainability and careful integration into the environment come together.
