Landtong lookout tower

Client: Constracting company Verboon Maasland B.V.

Architect & Structural Engineer: Municipal Works/ Engineering office Rotterdam

Dijkstaal's Work:
The supply and installation of 36 tons of steel, consisting of:

3 Stairs
- Stringers made from UNP 240
- 46 steps 30/3 fitted with double anti-slip + anti-slip nosing profile
- 27 meters of louvered stair railing
70 m² of glass fiber reinforced polyester planks (“composite”)
- Thickness: 40 mm
- Wear layer in “Rotterdam Style”
82 meters of louvered void railing
70 m² of galvanized expanded metal used as ceilings
Architectural tension rods, round 30 mm, including coupling discs, type “DETAN”

The 3 balconies were completely prefabricated in our factory, including expanded metal, composite floor panels, LED lighting, and railings, and were hoisted into place on-site.

The steelwork was fully executed in S355 quality and entirely hot-dip galvanized according to NEN-EN-ISO 1461-99.

The approximately 15-meter-high structure was manufactured and installed by us, based on a design by Municipal Works / Engineering Office Rotterdam. The balconies have composite flooring and are connected by stairs. On the underside of the balconies, LED lighting has been installed, which—together with the expanded metal cladding—creates beautiful lighting effects in the dark. The steel frame gains its necessary rigidity from diagonally placed tension rods.

The viewing tower is part of the redevelopment plan for Landtong Rozenburg, a project by Contracting Company Verboon Maasland B.V. in the recreational and nature area between the Nieuwe Waterweg and the Caland Canal.
