End customer: HES Hartel Tank Terminal B.V. [HHTT]
Customer and designer: Cegelec Fire Solutions NV
Constructor: Dijkstaal B.V.
Activities Dijkstaal: Calculation, engineering, delivery and assembly of 26 so-called fire fighting monitors.
The total of the 26 units consists of: 14 units of 8m¹, 10 units of 10m¹ and 2 units of 15m¹.
The monitors are used to extinguish fires in storage tanks.
The monitors were manufactured by us, preserved and completely assembled at a location outside the terminal, including platforms, cage ladders and assembled by Cegelec with piping, electrical systems, control cabinets and other equipment. In this way, construction on the terminal could be carried out very quickly, efficiently and with minimal inconvenience.
4 of the monitors were placed from the water with floating equipment for accessibility.
This action from the water was carried out in collaboration with Hebo Maritiemservice B.V. under the supervision of Ballast Nedam Industriebouw B.V.
The monitors are constructed from:
• Construction tube
• Industrial fencing with kick edge around the platforms
• Thermally galvanized steel mesh gratings with double anti-slip in the platforms
• Aluminum cage ladders completely in accordance with EN ISO 14122-4 equipped with cage closure with lock and safety gates at each exit
• Pipe supports
• Tested hoisting equipment
The steelwork is completely hot-dip galvanised according to NEN-EN-ISO 1461-99 and additionally provided with a 3-layer paint system, suitable for use in C5 (corrosiveness class) environments.
Dijkstaal has been able to carry out several assignments for Cegelec Fire Solutions NV in recent years, to our mutual satisfaction.
Because Dijkstaal is NEN-EN 1090 certified up to EXC.3, has its location practically next to the Rotterdam harbour and Industry, and is VCA** certified, we regularly carry out work at terminals.
This is what HES itself writes about its newest terminal: “It is quite something, such a new terminal. We have been busy with it since 2018. On the 27-hectare site, 54 tanks with a total capacity of 1.3 million m3 will be built. The quay has a depth of up to 25 meters and has 6 berths where we can even receive VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers). There will be 9 berths for inland vessels in the Hudsonhaven. That is so many because we do not transport any product by road or rail. The terminal is being built in accordance with the PGS 29 guideline, so safety and modern technology are fine.”
