The auxiliary heating plant became operational in 2014 and will provide 75% of the residents of Purmerend with 80% green heat. In addition to the BioWarmteCentrale, these types of auxiliary plants are needed to be able to supply sufficient heat during peak times. More and more homes are being built in Weidevenne and to provide all residents in this district with heat, an auxiliary plant is being built on the Verbindingsweg. Future residents of the Kop van West will also be assured of hot water thanks to the 'Whistling Kettle'.
