Our history

From father to son
The company's origins lie in 's-Gravenzande (Westland). Simon van Dijk carried out all kinds of work as a village blacksmith, such as shoeing horses, forging agricultural and horticultural tools and manufacturing and assembling greenhouses and sheds. Son Jan in particular, slowly expanded the business and even opened a shop with household items, hardware and electrical appliances. The sale and installation of fireplaces and stoves was also taken on. Jan's three sons eventually took over the company. Each had his own department and went his own way. Son Willem took charge of the electrical department. Son Simon took over the management of the store with the fireplaces and stoves department and son Joris took over the management of the forge, the construction of central heating systems and, last but not least, the steel structures.

Changes
In 1976 Jan van Dijk Jr. joined his father, who managed the workshop and shop together with brother Siem. Jan Jr. joined under one condition: that the shop be separated from the workshop and that he could concentrate on the workshop. His condition was met.

The name changed from J. van Dijk & zonen (sons) to Dijkstaal and the company moved to the Sand-Ambachtstraat, where there was more space for the structures. But the company also installed greenhouse heating for horticulture, boilers and pipes. The assignments gradually grew, and the focus shifted more and more to steel structures.

In 1986 the company moved to the Teylingen industrial estate in 's-Gravenzande. In the second half of the 1990s, computer-controlled machine streets were purchased; a saw/drill line and a punch/shear line. In 2001 the company moved again, this time to the industrial estate on the Nieuwe Waterweg in Maassluis, close to the A20 highway. We now have a floor area of approximately 3,800 m² including offices.

The fifth generation
In mid-2018, Jan van Dijk has definitively handed over the company to Joris and Lisette van Dijk. With this young management, Dijkstaal is ready for a new chapter.
